WCTH Characters I Would Like to See Return
My list of When Calls the Heart characters I would like to see return and WHY!
My list of When Calls the Heart characters I would like to see return for a short visit or story arc and WHY! Here are my top picks for characters to return at some point in the series. Share your list below in the comments!
Jesse & Clara
Jesse & Clara quickly became one of my favorite couples on When Calls the Heart. I would love to see them return for a cameo or a short story arc. Their love story is one of redemption and second chances. Clara got a second chance at love after tragically and suddenly losing Peter, her first husband. Jesse found a new life outside the gang and set himself on a good path. Together, Jesse and Clara constantly encouraged one another. Despite the occasional arguments, they always came out stronger on the other side. The last we heard about them was in Season 9 when Bill received a letter from them. We learned they were on a homestead in Montana. I will admit I did not like their storyline in Season 8 because bickered too much without a hint of resolution. That’s why I was content with them not being in Season 9. Nevertheless, I am curious what they are up to now and perhaps they have children of their own?!
Tom Thornton
I have been dying to see Tom Thorton, Jack’s brother again for years! I am curious about what he is doing now and if he turned his life around. Not to mention he has a little nephew now! When we first met Tom he was a mess. But I would guess he has matured since Season 5 at Elizabeth and Jack’s wedding. It would be cathartic for Elizabeth to talk about Jack with him. We have no idea where Tom or Charlotte (Jack’s mother) is in the grieving process. However, it wouldn’t hurt to reminisce with Elizabeth and celebrate Jack’s life. Ultimately, I believe this is what Jack would want Elizabeth and those he loved the most to do.
People seem to think this is a possibility based on Facebook posts I have read. Interesting!
Rachel & Christopher
Ahh Rachel & and Christopher…one of my favorite side-character couples! Rachel is the Coulter’s paternal niece, and Christopher is Henry Gowan’s son. What an unexpected but beautiful pairing that follows the classic “good girl, bad boy” trope. At first, I was not a fan of Christopher but looking past his hard external I finally came around. We learned in Season 9 that Rachel and Christopher might be wed soon. I would be interested in catching up with them via Henry’s storyline or even them returning for a brief visit. Perhaps they’ve married and are expecting a baby? Wouldn’t that be lovely to see Henry as a grandfather?! We have the beautiful story of Henry being Goldie’s Godfather but I still think seeing him become a grandfather would be full circle. Maybe Rachel and Christopher are at the wedding in Season 11?!
Kevin Townsend (Blacksmith Kevin)
Kevin was the blacksmith in Hope Valley from S5-7. I always felt his exit from the show was abrupt and left a particular storyline unfinished. He wasn’t a main character but had an important job! What small town in the early 1900s didn’t have a blacksmith nearby?! Based on my limited knowledge and research, a blacksmith was necessary in the early 1900s. Blacksmiths were like the modern-day mechanic or handyman so I imagine they were in high demand. When Calls the Heart has never claimed to be historically accurate but dropping this side character has always perplexed me. My only conclusion is they needed more space for the Canfields and other main characters, so Blacksmith Kevin got chopped. Joseph seemed to take over as the local handyman so I suppose it all worked out. I still wish Kevin’s storyline was wrapped up on screen rather than falling into the black hole. Maybe he is still Hope Valley but not shown?! Either way, I would love a cameo or short appearance by him! I also thought Fiona and Kevin had a little flirty thing in Seasons 6 & 7. I was cheering for them as a potential couple but that fizzled out quickly.
Carson Sheppard & Sofia Connelly
Sofia Connelly arrived In Season 5 Episode 3, Home Is Where the Heart Is. She is an architect and childhood friend of Rosemary Coulter. She is referred to as a trailblazer because she is a female architect in a male-dominated field. We learn she built Rosemary a theater with wooden crates when they were 9 years old. She and Carson meet and sparks fly! He asks her to picnic with him the next day and she accepts. It was a beautiful picnic until the rain came and they had to run to the shelter. Of course that made it even more romantic. She appears in the next episode but it is very brief. Carson helped her get a job as an architect in San Francisco and they say their goodbyes. I think it would be fun to see Carson come for a visit and we find out he has moved on completely from Faith. That would give her closure and a potential storyline. Sofia was a captivating character and I wouldn’t mind seeing another story arc with her. I loved the idea of Carson and Sofia and want them to return together.
Andrew Hargreaves
I’ve said it before, the Fort Clay storyline is not over! There is so much unresolved about that storyline and we need Superintendent Hargreaves to return to finish it. Another interesting point is Hargreaves assigned Scout, a failed Mountie dog, to Nathan last season. If all is well between the two Mounties why send Nathan a failed Mountie dog?
