Ranking WCTH Weddings
I rank the 5 When Calls the Heart Weddings in this special Valentine's Day post!
It’s February which means it’s officially the month of love. What better way to celebrate love than to rank the 5 When Calls the Heart weddings? Weddings and love go hand-in-hand after all!
Number 1: Elizabeth Thatcher & Jack Thornton (Season 5)
Jack and Elizabeth’s wedding was perhaps the most anticipated wedding of the series to date. It’s no shock that it ranked #1 for me despite being the 3rd wedding in the series. It was also special because the show was marrying off the leading lady so of course it had to be extravagant. Jack and Elizabeth overcame a lot to get the wedding of their dreams. First, her original wedding dress and all the decorations were burnt in the church fire days before the wedding. The Hope Valley community rallied together to repair and/or replace the damaged items in time for the wedding! Their teamwork and determination made this daunting and near-impossible task a success. Jack and Elizabeth did not get their extravagant wedding but in the end, the simpler wedding spoke more to them as a couple. Elizabeth learned to love and accept the simpler things in life. Overall, it was rewarding to see them finally marry and get to live their lives as husband and wife. From chalk dust to eternity they will always have my heart.
Number 2: Clara Stanton & Jesse Flynn (Season 7)
Jesse and Clara’s wedding was the most beautiful wedding of the series in my opinion and one of my favorites. Clara got a second chance at love and did not hesitate to take a leap of faith with Jesse by opening her heart again. Watching Clara and Jesse fall in love is one of my favorite storylines. Their wedding is more on the modern side compared to the previous weddings but everything about it is stunning. The setting, lights, wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, etc make Jesse and Clara’s the most beautiful When Calls the Heart wedding to date. They planned a beautiful outdoor wedding during what I assume is the spring season. However, on the wedding day, a heavy rain cloud is moving over Hope Valley. In despair, Clara wonders if it’s meant to be after all. In typical Hope Valley fashion, the community came to the rescue when the wedding needed to be moved indoors. Working fast and together they managed to move the entire wedding indoors in just a few hours! The imperfections became perfect for them as a couple as they embarked on a new journey together.
Number 3: Rosemary LeVeaux & Lee Coulter (Season 3)
Rosemary and Lee’s wedding was one for books or newspapers! In typical Rosemary fashion, she wanted everything bigger and better. Her motto: Bigger is better, better is bigger. At least that is what I think! She wanted only the best, of course, but with that came unreasonable high expectations, an abundance of stress, selfishness, ungratefulness, etc. The complete opposite of what a wedding should cause a person. She was critiquing her friends and seemed unappreciative of the sacrifices they were making for her wedding. From lost doves to a life-threatening mudslide, the trip to the aisle was not an easy task for Rosemary or the town of Hope Valley. However, there is a lesson to be learned here which is why it’s one of my favorite weddings. Rosemary soon realizes the materialistic items of a wedding are not the most important thing; it’s her friends and community. She donates the fabric for the wedding dresses and food for the reception to those injured by the mudslide. Instead of letting her selfish desires continue to take over, she makes a selfless decision to help those in immediate need. Rosemary and Lee, finally get married in a beautiful ceremony. It's Rosemary’s own redemption story in a sense.
Number 4: Mary Dunbar & Dewitt Graves (Season 2)
At the time, Mary and Dewitt’s wedding was a series first. It wasn’t overly extravagant but its simplicity was beautiful. This story is about a second chance to find love for Mary. She is recently widowed and a single mother of a son, who is trying to navigate the loss of his father. Dewitt Graves is a new miner in town. Their mutual kindness toward one another developed into something more romantic. Amid all the rumors and gossip mill about her moving on, she remained true to herself and decided to open her heart to love again. A simple wedding was sufficient for them because they lived a simpler life.
Number 5: Florence Blakeley & Ned Yost (Season 8)
Coming in last is Florence and Ned’s wedding. I struggled to get on board with their hasty relationship. Then to find out their wedding would be a couple of episodes later didn’t sit well with me. The sentiments of their wedding were beautiful and it was nice to see two families come together as one. The community and their friends showed up to support their friends and even helped with the wedding preparations. We got to see Florence and Ned’s children return home to support their parents. Of course, it was not without some drama but that was quickly squashed. It was a beautiful wedding ceremony!
Thank you for reading! It will be interesting to see how the wedding in Season 11 stacks up to these previous WCTH weddings!
