Season 10: Nathan Grant Top 10 Scenes (Part 1)
I share my favorite Top 10 Season 10 Nathan Grant Moments. Part 1 consists of moments 6-10.
Join me as I share and discuss my Top 10 Nathan Grant Moments from Season 10. I am ranking my favorite moments based on how much emotion they evoked and memorability. I am starting with Number 10 and working my way to Number 1. This is Part 1 and will contain moments 6-10. It is SO HARD to rank these moments because they all deserve to be NUMBER 1! Nathan’s scenes are all special to me so this was a difficult task! Without further ado, here are my rankings! Share your rankings in the comments below!
Number 10: “Baked Goods”
From Season 10 Episode 5 and Episode 7
As the saying goes, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” & that seems to be the case for Nathan!
There is nothing quite like homemade baked goods! From banana bread to fresh-baked muffins, baked goods made multiple appearances in Season 10. I know these are TWO moments but they are both baked goods scenes so I am making the executive decision to count them as one! The banana bread and muffin scenes brought levity to the season. From the seriousness of Elizabeth’s trials of the heart, Nathan figuring out where his heart lies, Hope Valley being in danger, and so much more, we needed a little fun! Nathan and Elizabeth played off each other so well in these two scenes. Their deep-abiding friendship is apparent and we see Nathan in a lighter mood compared to his typical down-to-business, tough exterior.
The “Muffin Scene” was poignant because it brought up the topic of home which was the theme for Episode 5. It was an interesting parallel between her conversation about home with Lucas. In that conversation, she and Lucas had vastly different views on where or what their future home should look like. However, with Nathan, it was apparent his view of home aligned with hers, right there in Hope Valley. As he rode away she watched with a thoughtful look as if pondering her future. Bravo to the writers for the callback to an earlier scene in this episode and the consistent writing!
In Episode 7 we see the “Banana Bread” scene. Who doesn’t love a little friendly banter over banana bread?! This scene is more about Bill but the little back-and-forth between Elizabeth and Nathan was not lost on me. One thing that stuck out to me was Elizabeth saying she would keep the extra banana bread pan “just in case.” That felt like foreshadowing so perhaps we will see some banana bread in Season 11!
Number 9: “Nathan & Allie at the Community Dinner”
From Season 10 Episode 1
When I first sat down to make this list I thought this moment would be in my Top 5. However, it started moving down the list as other moments moved ahead of it. Nathan and Allie are my favorite characters but the reason it didn’t make my Top 5 is simply because other moments evoked more emotion for me. Meaning they were more emotionally charged. This moment was sweet and had some levity to it. Nevertheless, I loved the scene and it has a special place in my heart. Always. But it makes my Top 10 moments!
For so many years I have been wishing and longing for a dance between Nathan and Allie. Considering the limited scenes between Nathan and Allie in previous seasons, I never thought they would show us a moment like this. I enjoyed seeing Nathan and Allie share a light-hearted moment. It illustrates and further proves how close they are as Father/Daughter even though she is growing up. He is her only family aside from his parents, but for the majority of her life, he was all she had for family. Above all, I appreciated seeing Nathan happy and smiling for once. Over the last couple of seasons, he has dealt with more than his fair share of heartbreak so we haven’t seen a true smile for a while. Seeing Nathan truly happy and experiencing joy with Allie made my heart leap and brought tears to my eyes.
Also, Elizabeth read a poem titled Carpe Diem by Allie Grant. No one knew the identity of the author, but Nathan figured it out. He knows his daughter’s heart and knows this poem is hers. He looks at her and returns his attention to Elizabeth glowing with pride for Allie. It is the little things that matter in life!
Number 8: “Meeting at the Log”
From Season 10 Episode 12
Are you shocked this moment isn’t higher up on the list considering its significance for Nathan and Elizabeth? If so, ME TOO!
This moment is certainly a significant scene in Season 10. However, it didn’t evoke as much emotion as the other scenes which is why I ranked it 8th. The return to the log aka the ‘ILY spot’ is pivotal in Nathan and Elizabeth’s storylines which is why it deserves a spot in my Top 10 rankings. They first met at this spot back in Season 8 Episode 2 when Nathan professed his love for Elizabeth. Unbeknownst to us at the time, this love would become unrequited because Elizabeth did not express the same sentiment. Now, back at the log in Season 10, this is a significant moment for them. In my opinion, there is only ONE reason why this scene was recreated (per Kevin McGarry in the Edify Films Aftershow) and that is because of their unresolved feelings for each other. There were so many feelings unspoken between the two of them. The only words spoken were “What are you doing here?” A question both asked one another but were unable to answer for themselves. Overall, this scene left me wanting more (in a good way!) and it was a perfect scene to wrap up their Season 10 story arcs. I look forward to exploring this more in Season 11.
Number 7: “Nathan Comforts Allie”
From Season 10 Episode 8
Although this scene leads into the Apple Juice scene, I will save my thoughts on that for another section! Allie finds herself in a scary situation babysitting LJ for the first time. She and LJ were playing hide-and-seek but soon Allie realized she could not find him anywhere. This was her first time babysitting so I can understand her quick panic. She asks Nathan for help finding him. She is panicked to the point of tears but Nathan remains calm under pressure. I suppose that is his Mountie training shining through! After comforting her and swiftly finding LJ, he stays with her until Elizabeth comes home. At some point after LJ fell asleep she laid her head on Nathan's shoulder and fell asleep. How sweet, right!? Overall, I love the subtlety of the scene but yet the strong emotional impact. Another favorite part of Nathan comforting Allie is tucking her in on the couch before leaving. The gentleness of his touch conveyed an abundance of love and care. I love that we (and Elizabeth) got to witness this side of Nathan. So often I feel his paternal instincts are overshadowed or swept under the rug.
Number 6: “Front Porch Chat”
From Season 10 Episode 4
Nathan and Elizabeth have always bonded over being single parents. They have both referenced how hard it is to raise a child alone. Elizabeth mentioned it in Season 6 and Nathan reiterated the same sentiment in this Season 10 scene. This is something other women can relate to in the town because of the mining disaster. However, Nathan & Elizabeth often confide in one another as opposed to other people. Initially, Elizabeth was the one giving Nathan much-needed advice but this season the roles have been reserved. That’s what I loved about the porch chat in Episode 4. Nathan has experience in this area of being a single parent having to navigate questions from his child about a deceased parent. Elizabeth is now having to navigate similar questions from Little Jack about Jack Sr. She does not seek Nathan out to ask, instead when he checks on Rosemary (and her), she broaches the topic. His advice was they (the kids) would let the parents know what they were ready for regarding their lost parent. They also talk about the intimate details of Little Jack’s birth and how she was alone (without Jack) in a cabin. Overall, I feel like this scene furthered their deep-abiding friendship and allowed Elizabeth to start navigating the questions from Little Jack regarding Jack.
Another aspect I appreciated about this scene is Nathan checking in with Elizabeth. He saw she was struggling with something and as a friend asked if she was ok. This was once again a very prominent and excellent example of the deep-abiding friendship she longed for after the Season 8 finale. A true friend provides a listening ear when a friend is struggling. This is exactly what Nathan did during this scene. It was not until Elizabeth asked for advice that Nathan gave it to her. I’ll discuss it later but he follows up this conversation in Episode 8 during the “apple juice” scene. Another example of their friendship and how much it has grown over the years.
