Signed, Sealed, Delivered (The Pilot)
My recap and thoughts on the pilot movie of the Signed, Sealed, Delivered Series.
I thought it was a perfect time to watch the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series from start to current during the When Calls the Heart hiatus. Kaycee from
informed me I should watch in order so that is what I am doing! I will have a blog post dedicated to each movie and I will also be watching the TV series.Signed, Sealed, and Delivered (The Pilot). Originally aired on October 12, 2013, on Hallmark Mystery (formally Hallmark Movies & Mysteries).
Synopsis: A mix-up on her first day of work sends Shane to the Dead Letter Office, where a group of quirky characters led by Oliver tries to deliver the undeliverable.
I thought it would be fun to recap this series in letter format instead of how I usually do a blog post! The P.S. section will include my thoughts on the movie! Enjoy. Let’s get into the ratings, recap, and my thoughts on the pilot movie of SSD!
Rating: 4/5 Dead Letters
I give this movie 4/5 dead letters. It is probably one of the best pilot movies I have seen in a while. Each character introduction set up the plot for the movie (and series) perfectly. I appreciate the way the story intertwines the present and past. It is truly beautiful and what makes this series unique. I loved the romance aspect with a twist of mystery and turns that I did not see coming!
Dear POstables,
The mystery letter in the first movie details the journey of two young people almost a year prior. Kelly (Laci J Mailey) and Charlie Riggs (Benjamin Hollingsworth) serendipitously meet in the elevator of a multi-office building. They quickly bond after Charlie quits his job at Miller, Miller, Miller, & Schwartz, an acquisition firm. Unbeknownst at the time, Kelly was there at the medical research center for Hodgkin Lymphoma on the third floor. She was hesitant to commit to more than one special day with Charlie and refrained from telling him about her illness. They spent the day talking, conquering fears, and sharing a kiss. As Kelly departs in a taxi she frantically jots down his address to mail him the letter explaining her feelings and setting up a second date exactly one year later. Unfortunately, the letter never makes it into a postal box and eventually lands in the Dead Letters Office (DLO) for Oliver and his team to find.
The POstables journey through the letter and retrace their day to find Charlie, the intended recipient before he misses his second date. A series of unforeseen events and outcomes threaten the possibility of a reunion between these two lovers. However, the POstables go out on a limb to make sure Kelly and Charlie get their second chance at love. After spending time searching for Charlie they think they finally delivered the letter to him but his neighbor intercepts it. She informs Shane that Charlie is in prison. Shane uses her tech skills to search for more answers. They discover Charlie was arrested for murder of the bakery owner a year prior which happens to fall on the exact date he and Kelly spent the day. Without photo evidence there is very little the lousy lawyer can do to exonerate Charlie. Shane and Oliver visit Charlie in prison to hand deliver the letter. Shane uses her tech skills to find out Kelly was a participant in a clinical trial for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma only to discover there were no survivors. They leave Charlie shaken and heartbroken. But Shane has an epiphany while at the bar. Again, Shane uses her tech skills to find the secret blog Kelly made to upload all their photos. Now, with all the photo evidence to exonerate Charlie, Oliver and the team head to prison to pick up Charlie. They go to the bridge because Charlie thinks one of them should still go to the meeting spot intended for the second date.
As the team watches Charlie look out at the water from the bridge a woman on a bike whizzes by. Surprise!! The woman on the bike is Kelly. She informs Charlie she dropped out of the clinical trial and her family found her another doctor. Kelly and Charlie kiss getting their second chance at love and life together. Kelly sows on his button after all this time.
Signed, Sealed, & Delivered
Until next time,
Heartie Thoughts
P.S. I enjoyed this movie and it felt like an old-timey Hallmark Channel Movie but with a Hallmark Mystery twist. From the coincidental coffee cart run-in to a murder mystery and finally, the happy ending it was a PERFECT movie with twists and turns. All the twists kept me on my toes…in a good way! I loved how we got to see a Hallmark love story with a splash of Hallmark Mystery. It was endearing to watch Shane fall in love with Dead Letters Office when she was initially so adamant about getting out to go to her intended assignment in the Direct Line Operations department. The POstables are great detectives and sleuths even if it’s for dead letters, not bodies. Each person on the team has a unique job that cannot be done by another person which is what makes this movie/series so special. Bravo Hallmark Channel! Shane and Oliver’s connection is so glaringly obvious. She challenges him in a way I presume no one has before. Rita and Norman’s adoration for one another is obvious too. But it’s seemingly sweet and innocent. It’s exciting to see these connections so early on and I cannot wait to continue watching where their journey in the Dead Letters Office leads them.
P.P.S. I am a huge fan of Laci J Mailey from Chesapeake Shores and Benjamin Hollingsworth from his various Hallmark movies and Virgin River. It was fun to watch them together in this movie and added an extra little something that makes a show or movie more enjoyable.
Thank you for taking the time to read my brief thoughts on the pilot for the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series. I know it departs from my typical When Calls the Heart coverage but this series has been recommended to be numerous times!
