Season 11 Preview Analysis
Happy New Year! Let's unpack the very brief Season 11 preview. Season 11 is coming to Hallmark in 2024.
Well Hearties, here we are yet again in another phase of waiting between seasons. Twelve weeks go by so quickly! P.S. This was composed the week after the finale aired but I am just now editing it for release. Happy New Year! I cannot believe it is officially 2024. What better way to start the new year than talking about Season 11?!
If you have not seen the preview, it’s attached below. It’s short so watch it and keep reading! The video is on Hallmark Channel’s YouTube channel. All rights to the video go to Hallmark Media, LLC.
The Season 11 preview opens with a journal entry voice-over from Elizabeth. I have missed her journal entries! I'm glad to see we will be starting Season 11 with one!
“There’s a change in the air and inside of me. What we make of our lives is up to us.” -Elizabeth Thornton
When watching this preview two words come to mind: Change and Light.
Change:
Spring is in full bloom! The flowers are full of new growth and life, bright vibrant colors, and blooming to their full potential. Is this foreshadowing of the change Elizabeth will go through in Season 11? Or perhaps the change she went through in Season 10? Either way, I firmly believe she is still processing her grief over Jack and we will see a huge breakthrough in Season 11.
Aside from Elizabeth’s relationship with Lucas, she was undergoing a change, or metamorphosis, in her heart throughout Season 10. She realized her heart and home were in Hope Valley. Her calling is teaching the children in Hope Valley and there is no way she is called away from it. All of these internal changes and struggles surface in the last two episodes of Season 10. Additionally, her unresolved feelings for Nathan are starting to resurface and she can no longer push them aside. I believe we will see her grapple with this reality before she fully embraces a relationship with Nathan.
Like a flower in the winter frost, her relationship with Lucas withered and ceased to remain in its current state. Elizabeth broke up with Lucas in Episode 11. It was bittersweet for the fans of this couple. I believe in Season 11 she will learn to navigate her new life. Springtime brings new growth and life to the flowers after the harsh winter weather. This parallel is similar to the one I imagine will see in Elizabeth's character in Season 11. Like a new flower in the springtime, Elizabeth appears to be embracing the change based on the short video above. However, this does not mean she won’t struggle. She will. But on the other side of the struggle lies a beautiful field of flowers—love and happiness with Nathan. Most importantly, I believe she will find complete and utter CONTENTMENT in her heart.
Light:
Elizabeth’s clothing, hair, and makeup appear lighter for Season 11. Her clothing is white and cream in the preview clip. Her hair is a lighter brown compared to the darker brown she had in Season 10. Elizabeth’s makeup appears to be more minimal and she is wearing neutral colors, such as light pinks, creams, etc. Little Jack’s clothing is also lighter for the most part but I am more interested in Elizabeth’s appearance than his right now. I would venture to say she will likely be dressed in lighter colors this season.
Even the lighting of this brief scene is light and airy. It portrays the feeling of being refreshed or renewed. A weight has been lifted off her shoulders and she is free. She is no longer carrying the weight of her grief over Jack’s death or staying in a relationship when her heart doesn’t want to follow.
Closing Thoughts:
I feel like a broken record repeating myself in this post! But we have very little to go off as of now. Overall, I am hopeful this season will be lighter and happier for all characters (and fans) involved. It has been an emotionally challenging few years for Elizabeth and I am excited to see her in this new stage of life. We have seen her grieve so hard and long for Jack. He will always be her first great love but she can love again. Showrunner Lindsay Sturman planted the seeds and breathed new life into Season 10. Now in Season 11, I can only hope we will see those seeds come to fruition. And I am confident we will!
Side note: We found out The Way Home Season 2 will premiere on January 21st. We can only speculate a Season 11 premiere date for When Calls the Heart but we know it is sometime in 2024. I predict it will be the end of March due to the Summer Olympics and Christmas in July schedules.
